Autumn colour
Autumn/ harvest was the theme for September's gathering of Chinley Creative Circle, which was well attended.
We were delighted to welcome some 'newbies' along who had heard about the group at the Hope Valley Art Trail exhibition in Chinley the previous weekend.
Everyone enjoyed a lovely afternoon of creativity, watercolour painting, tea/coffee/posh biscuits, and great company.

Hope Valley Art Trail by Rail
The Hope Valley Art Trail by Rail took place at venues situated near to railway stations on the Hope Valley rail line, between Chinley and Grindleford, from 26-27 September.
Twelve artists exhibited their work at Chinley WI Hall, with more than 40 local artists participating across all venues!

Exhibition launch
On Wednesday 23 September the launch event for the Hope Valley Art Trail by Rail exhibition took place at the Angler's Rest in Bamford. It was fantastic to meet all of the artists participating in the event across the various venues between Chinley and Hathersage, on the Hope Valley railway line, from 26-27 September. Huge thanks to Emily Gait and all of the venue organisers for making it happen.
Gouache demo
In August, I was privileged to be invited to give a gouache painting demonstration in New Mills for Debby’s lovely art group.
We had such a wonderful time painting together, and it was fantastic to see everyone getting stuck in and creating some gorgeous artwork. A huge well done to everyone who took part — you should all be very proud of what you produced!
And a very special thank you for the beautiful flowers. They were such a thoughtful and generous surprise and very much appreciated. Thank you again, Debby, for inviting me. It was an absolute pleasure to spend the time with such a lovely group!
My Creative Journey
I’ve loved drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was happiest with a pencil or paintbrush in hand, and that love of creativity eventually led me to study Graphic Design at the University of Lancaster.
My working life took me in a different direction, through newspaper editorial, book publishing and, later, working as a PA. But my passion for art never went away.
Today, I’m delighted to have found my way back to creativity. Alongside my part-time work in the theatre industry, I spend my time painting and creating from my studio in the beautiful Peak District. I’m also lucky to collaborate with other artists on local community projects, sharing ideas and discovering new ways to connect with people through art.
For me, painting is about the simple joy of creating, noticing the beauty in everyday life, and always having something new to learn and explore. It feels wonderful to have come full circle and be doing what I’ve always loved.
All in the detail
My studio is based in the Peak District, where I am blessed to have wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. Landscape painting is my true passion, and I relish the challenge of capturing each season, from the vibrant hues of spring to the rich, earthy tones of autumn.
When it comes to my artistic style, I'm undeniably a details person, and my work reflects this. My favourite medium is gouache, a versatile paint that enables me to bring my intricate visions to life.
I also have a fondness for sketching, often using pen and watercolour, making it an ideal choice for plein air work.
This cheeky little watercolour sketch was created whilst on a fabulous holiday in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
I love taking photographs and I am never without a camera! Each year I produce a photo calendar of the local area, which has proved to be very popular - 2027 calendar is available now!
